Our history

LEAP India Foundation was set up by Jacqueline Openshaw with the Kumar family in India in 2010. Robin Baker was the inspiration. She had previously established a very successful girls' project with the Jojis and has supported more than 700 girls through education. Robin's Girls' Home has the fantastic achievement of being the first establishment in the area to send girls onto secondary education and University.

LEAP India Foundation continues to be managed by the Kumar family and five trustees. The Kumar family include Mr K Joji  his wife Mrs K Jagga and son Santosh . They  have many years experience of working with poor rural people in Andhra Pradesh. LEAP India Foundation is part of an Indian registered charity,  Social Action for Needy People. SANP is responsible for governance and liaises with the Indian Government on issues of child welfare and education.

The children

LEAP India Foundation currently supports twenty residential boys who need a home and education and ten boy students at 6th form colleges and Universities.

The location

The location of the residential home is on the edge of the town of Agaripall. It is currently home to twenty boys. Our older boys who are at resident 6th form colleges return at weekends and holidays. Thanks to Rotary donations we have a computer room where the girls also come to study. Fruit and vegetables are grown in the garden. Producing much of the food means that more money is available for education.
