Changing lives through education

Supporting education for girls and boys.

We support education for girls and boys who come from vulnerable and poor homes in Andhra Pradesh, India. Our aim is to improve life chances for these children through education.

Education is the way out grinding poverty and hand to mouth existence for these children. They are mainly Dalits, previously known as "untouchables". People of this caste have traditionally been ostracised and have to search each day for work. Many are in bonded labour.  The Indian Government has schemes to provide employment for Dalits if a good educational standard is achieved. The difficulty is attaining this as so  many children are too poor to attend school.

The children attend local schools, colleges and Universities. We also employ a teacher to supervise homework. The children are enthusiastic and work very hard at school. They want to be engineers, teachers and doctors, nurses and police.

Lives can be transformed by education. Our graduates would be daily agricultural workers with no guarantee of work if they had not had the chance to continue school.

Change a life

This is an opportunity to directly help very disadvantaged children in the knowledge that any support goes directly to the children. No donated money is used for administration. Travel/administration are paid by the trustees from personal funds.

Small sums can achieve a lot. £1 a week  will pay 25% of a year's college fees for one of our girls. £10  a month will cover her college  fees, food, books, clothes , travel costs for six months or provide food and clothing for one of our resident boys.

“LEAP India Foundation has transformed the lives of these children - education is a route out of poverty.”
